Mr. Newman
Biography
I am honored to serve the Crater Community as a School Counselor. Supporting students in their ability to learn, grow, and thrive drives the important work that I do. The high school years can be incredibly challenging for students on many levels and I believe that the work we do as school counselors can be vital to student success.
I have worked in the Central Point School District for 16 years, first serving as an alternative education teacher at Crater, then a Teacher on Special Assignment supporting alternative programs. For the last 13 years, I have taught English Language Arts, Speech, Social Studies, and various electives at Hanby Middle School. As the last school year ended, my students presented me with a certificate saying that I was finally ready to go to the high school. I am so honored to be here again!
In my life outside of work, I am married and have two sons, one of whom is starting high school this year. I have a deep love of rafting, biking, and spending time in the woods with my family.
I have long believed that school counselors have the most student-centered jobs in the world of education. I am so fortunate to be here!
